FRIDAY vigil, SUNDAY walk for lake superior

This Friday [July 18] will be the 11th Iraq Moratorium day. We'll be commemorating it here in the Twin Ports with a one anti-war vigil from 4:30-5:30pm on the corner of London Road and 21st Ave. E. in Duluth. Our vigil has the theme of "100 More Years? Not One More Day! Bring the Troops Home Now!" Join us in holding signs and handing out leaflets opposing the ongoing U.S. occupation of Iraq.

Then on Sunday [July 22], the Northland Anti-War Coalition is encouraging folks to participate in the "Walk for Lake Superior" that is being organized by Nukewatch and others. The walk is to protest the dumping of toxic barrels in Lake Superior. Folks are asked to gather at 10am at Brighton Beach in east Duluth. At 11am a march will be leaving Brighton Beach, and heading to Leif Erickson Park, where at 2pm there'll be a rally with speakers and music.

Among the speakers and singers will be:

-Rick Defoe, Duluth American Indian Commission
-Sharla Gardner, Duluth City Council
-Wisc. State Rep. Frank Boyle
-Moderator Jan Conley, Lake Superior Greens
-Invited: Red Cliff Environmental Program
-Former Mayor Herb Bergson
-Singer/Songwriters Rachel Kilgour and David Rovics
