Report on the Dec. 13 Anti-War March & Rally

On Saturday, December 13, the Northland Anti-War Coalition held and march and rally against the ongoing U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The theme of the protest was "Human Needs, Not War!" - with a special focus on the demand that the billions being spent on war, be instead be spent on health care.

We marched through Duluth's Hillside neighborhood, and stopped in front of the Saint Mary's Medical Center for some chanting.

Despite the biting cold, and the approach of a big blizzard, 50 hearty souls participated in the march, which culminated with an indoor rally at the Central Hillside Community Center.

The speakers at the rally were Mustafa Aidid of the Amnesty International chapter at the College of St. Scholastica, Bob Kosuth of the Northland Anti-War Coalition, Mike Rogge of Lake Superior Socialist Action and Joan Najbar, of Military Families Speak Out, who also chaired the rally.

The march and rally was the culmination of a week long series of events that NAWC held in response to a national call for action by the National Assembly to End the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars & Occupation. Special thanks to all who participated!
